| | Clovis, dessine-moi une auto |
It's the story of a boy who used to fill his copy-books margins with drawings of cars, planes, jets, F1... ; he was really fascinated by "the mechanical objects". His only idea was to study the graphic arts and make a living from his skill. In 1968 he joined the Belvision Studios in Brussels and 6 years later became Jean Graton's assistant. Now he has become a well-known automotive illustrator. This is a short summary of Claude Viseur's (Clovis) life. Denis Asselberghs and the DPPC Editions devoted a book to him containing 160 pages and about 400 drawings.
Through the chapters the style varies from humoristic to realistic. We read that, in addition to MIchel Vaillant, Clovis has made a lot of comic strips. The book shows his various collaborations with the press: AutoHebdo Belgium, Le Moniteur de l'Automobile, Grand Prix Special, etc. We also read that his drawings were used to make badges, stamps, video and CD covers! Of course the racing car remains his favourite topic, in all forms: Francorchamps, Le Mans, Ayrton Senna, Thierry Boutsen and ... Jacky Ickx who kindly accepted to preface the book. Jean Graton complimented him, qualifying him of "free electron". No better thing could have been said.
